Welcome back, Commander

Welcome back after 2 years, 5 months and 15 days. 🙂

If you like thOpenRA Logoe old style Westwood games and want to play those on a modern PC, try OpenRA.

OpenRA is a Libre/Free Real Time Strategy project that recreates the classic Command & Conquer titles.

We include recreations of C&C (Tiberian Dawn), C&C: Red Alert, and Dune 2000. These are not intended to be perfect copies, but instead combine the classic gameplay of the originals with modern improvements such as unit veterancy and the fog of war.

OpenRA’s primary focus is cross-platform multiplayer between Windows, OS X, and Linux; however, we include a number of single-player missions, and also support skirmish games against AI bots.

Venture Arctic

From now until New Years, Venture Arctic is free for non-commercial, personal use! Merry Christmas everyone!
Venture Arctic is a learning experience, but not because it tries to be. The game, where you control the impact of the seasons on the arctic animals, is about balance. Too many rabbits leads to a barren landscape. Increasing the number of wolves to combat the problem will quickly lead to no animals at all. The animals react the world around them as you paint the land with snow and the water with ice, and then melt it all away. The Inuit-inspired art gives the whole game a distinctive look that matches the game’s uniqueness. Venture Arctic, like the world it portrays, is a treasure of beauty and wonder. It’s an adventure into the unknown world around us that inspires and excites as players enjoy each new discovery. There are a lot of games available, but few of them are much more than a simple pastime. Venture Arctic is a game that stands out from the pack as being not only meaningful, but also amazingly good.

Sometimes it takes a little while to get to know a game before you really like it. This is one of those games. I just want everyone else to be able to get to know it as well.

Merry Christmas!

Red Alert

Around October Red Alert 3 will be released. Until that there is plenty of time to play the original Red Alert, which was released in 1996!

This might be old news to the real fans and die-hards, but for others this might be handy. To play Red Alert online you needed to through a lot of settings. That has been made a bit easier by following this guide on strike-team.net. It also works for Red Alert 2, and Renegade.

Have fun!

Signs of life

Looks like I was  gone for a month on my blog.
The main reasons where school and my mech game.

Talking about the mech game: Progress goes slow but quite steady.
My main modeler Guybrush did some great work on some weapon models.
Today i tried to get one into the game.

The Texture isn’t finished (placeholder) but i think it is good to see something we made, finally into the game engine.
With some luck we find a decent texture artist / skinner, so we have some decent art to show.

Mech Game (3)

Well my mech game is still in development. Slowly it gets into shape.
A different shape then before, since I changed the scope of this project.
What happens to be the case: I want my game to be a bit more orginal then all the standard mechs that are already around.
So what is my plan? Simple: I try to create a Co-op mech game. Mechs + Co-op, how much more fun do you want?!

This is my todo list (in a nutshell):

  • Create mech models, texture and animate them (I need help with this!)
  • Create weapon models, textures and some animations ( again i need help with this!)
  • Design a HUD
  • Create some object that could be used for the levels
  • Design levels

  • Add different types of AI
  • Add mission objectives
  • Add weapons
  • Add mech classes
  • Add mech selection
  • Score keeping
  • Add 3rd Person camera + crosshair

I have already tried some basic AI stuff and it is quit fun, though it needs some tweaks.
